1. Fold the 14” x 42” batik fabric in half (wrong sides together) to measure 14” x 21”.

2. On the right side of fabric, on one end, mark a line 1/2", 1- 1/2", 2 1/2", 3 1/2", and 4 1/2" from edge of fabric.

3. On the other end of the fabric on the wrong side, mark a line 1/2", and 4 1/2" from edge of fabric.

6. Next, set up the machine for a 3-thread flatlock.

Flatlock Instructions:
This is an unbalanced stitch. The tension on the needle thread is so loose that the folded fabric can be pulled flat. The top side of the stitch looks like an overlock stitch and the back side looks like a ladder.

a. Needle in left position for wide stitch.
b. Needle tension set at 1 – 2. This may need to be adjusted to get the desired look. You may even have to go to 0.
c. The needle should just barely pierce the fold of the fabric when sewing. You will have to practice this to determine how far to move the fabric to the right of the needle.
d. All sewing is done of the right side of fabric.
e. After stitching, pull the fabric open for the stitch to lie flat.

7. Do a flatlock stitch on the 1 1/2", 2 1/2", and 3 1/2" line.

8. Fold front down on the 4 1/2" line making sure right sides are together.

9. Fold up back (right sides together) to front.

10. Fold the 4 1/2” line of the back flap over to the front.

11. Set up machine for 3-thread wide stitch.

12. Serge the side seams.

13. Turn right side out and press.
