McDougal's began humbly with a small store called Bob McDougal Sewing Machine Co. in the Houston Heights area. Bob believed that hard work, honesty, and building long-term relationships with his customers would lead to success, and he was right. Bob passed his beliefs and work ethic on to generations of his family.

Bob's youngest grandson, Dan Welch, and his wife Karen, now own and operate McDougal Sewing Center's 4,000 sq. ft. main store in Katy, plus their five stores within Jo-Ann Stores. Dan and Karen have worked hard to honor Bob McDougal's legacy, while always striving to introduce the newest in sewing and embroidery innovation to their customers.
